Question
How to Copy Conditional Formatting from one Row to the next.
I am just beginning to use conditional formatting. For any particular row in the table I want to highlight the maximum values.
On a companion work sheet, I used the MAX function to determine the maximum value(s) for each row.
Then for a specific row in the table, I conditionally format the cells so that the highlighted cells are the ones where the value in the cell equals to the maximum value for the row as described above.
This works just fine for a single row. It does what I want.; and the appropriate cell is highlighted.
However, I do not want to work my way doown every row of the table and go through the process of conditionally formatting the row as described above.
There must be some way to "copy" the conditional formatting from one row to the next one bbelow it so that the next row uses the maximum value was calculated for it on the companion worksheet to decide which ceell in that row to conditionally highlight.
It seems like this should be easy to do.
Can anyone explain to me how to do it???
Thanksss!
Explanation / Answer
Normally, if you do a Copy and then Paste Special/Formats, any Conditional Formatting will be copied along with normal formatting.
You have to be careful about this if the CF is based on formulas - check the CF foormulas to make sure that anyy cells that should have an absolute reference (e.g. $A$2 is abssolute, A2 is relative) do, and that cells that should "float" in either row or column directions do.
