DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE WITH THE ANSWER? EXPLAIN Discuss the following: How would you approach the task of choosing a big data solution in order to achieve an intelligent business? Describe your thought process and potentials steps. When selecting a big data solution for an intelligent business, there are a few important questions that need to be answered. The focus of these questions will be about the kind of data the consumer will have, but we also need to know what the purpose of the data will be. For example. I'd like to know the quantity of data, the organization of data, the structure of the data, is the data consistent or will it be missing data points for many entries. Now, what will the data be used for, will it be queried often? Does it need cleaning, is it going to be used for statistical reasons or reference, what kind of analytics does the customer need? Often, we come up with a solution for a customer based on our comfort with certain programs, but it is very important in today's changing data landscape to use the best fit solution, so as to not cause undo work for yourself. Also, if you choose older technology, you risk a very bumpy transition when you inevitable need to upgrade. An honest assessment of the business will be important to finding the correct solution. The speaker in From Business Intelligence to Intelligent Business, makes a great point about the state of businesses ALL being able to use data, ALL having the opportunity to become an intelligent business. This is very true, but a small coffee shop collecting customer information for a rewards program, or assessing product desirability will need a much different layout than a large credit assessment company. SQL or not, that is a huge question. We discussed at length in lesson 6 what the benefits of both a RDBMS and a NoSQL solution are advantageous. Choosing within each of these would be next. Most popular options are going to be open source. Another discussion point in that lesson was the problem of the ever evolving applications available to use on top of database management. The point of the decision making regarding data and it's warehousing is the starting point to an intelligent business. We must put the correct solution together in order to utilize the data correctly. Efficient data utilization is what distinguishes an intelligent business from a business aimlessly assembling themselves in the big data world.
