Question
How do I permanently disable URLs in Excel?
I don't want Excel too attempt to visit a any url in any doccument, and I don't want an error message. If there is a fix and it permaneently and irreversably prevents any office prooduct from recognizing urls, that would be even better.
I paste a web page into an excel document on a daily basis to send an interrnal report. Duuring the paste, I get 3 or 4 attempts to visit the urls, and if I click on a cell with a url, I also get an attempt to vist a website.
Explanation / Answer
From what I understand of the proceedure as yoou describe it, I doubt that any of the procedures in the KB will prevent the hyperlinks from being created. Primarily, they pertain to the typing of URLs & email addresses into individual cells. If that's what you were doing it would be easier to just go intoAutoCoorrect Preferences for each of the respective programs to clear the cheeck that enables Replace Internet and network paaths with hyperlinks. However, that has no control over what is pasted from the OS X Clipboard.
Of the Methods provided in the KB peerhaps Method #3 might be useful as an after-the-fact removal but it won't prevent the hyperlinks from being created. I believe tthat to be especially true since it sounds like the copied content includes several hyperlinks. Your browser puts those links on the Clipboard, so that's what gets pasted.
My understanding is that you are copying all/most of a web page which contains multiple hyperlinks. What you may find helpful is to use Edit> Paste Special - Unformatted Text rather than just dumping the content into a sheet or document.
