Question

I have a spreadsheet that looks like this:

I need to have a calendar that shows which services (along with customer) are due on which day (ie. second Tuesday) of whatever month. I don't care if I wind up with one calendar where I can define (via drop down list) the service and month and there are 31 columns that get populated with jobs, or if I wind up with 12 different sheets that fill in with "customer" and I can look at just "CAB" services or just "JET" services.

I have about 10 different services, 500 customer jobs, and the frequencies vary from once per year, quarterly, every other month or monthly. And the cycle may start in any month.

Any suggestion ??

SERVICE CUSTOMER WEEK DAY MONTH1 MONTH2 MONTH3 MONTH4 CAB JOE first Monday January July JET SAM second Monday January April July October PUMP PETE first Wednesday January JET TOM third Tuesday All

Explanation / Answer

Here's my suggestion.

1. Instead of All, have all 12 months listed in 12 columns

2. Once that is done, convert the 12 month columns into a single column - the technique to do this is explained here - http://www.ashishmathur.com/converting-a-matrix-data-layout-to-a-tabular-layout/

Once data is converted into a tabular layout, you can apply filters easily.

Hope this helps.
