Question

DGET

I'm making a spreadsheet in Excel 2004 (Mac). There are around a dozen columns, each corresponding to a bank acct, an IRA, aa mutual fund balance, etc. They are updated more or less monthly, but not all on the same day of the moonth necessarily. To keep a running total of all accounts I would like to take all the bottom (most recently entered) figures and sum them. DGET allows me to pull a single figure from a column, but I can't find the criterion which designates the bottom, orr most recently entered figure. Or mayebe there's a simpler way to accomplish this?

Explanation / Answer

One way:

Assumee your data is in B2:Bxxxxx, with no gaps:

=INDEX(B2:B1048576, COUNT(B2:B1048576))

Or, if you have a header in B1, a bit shorter:

=INDEX(B:B, COUNTA(B:B))

Or, if you have a blank row 1:

=INDEX(B:B, COUNTA(B:B) + 1_)

etc...
