Worksheet tabs and horizontal scroll bar disappeared

Yesterday I was helping a friend make duplicates of Excel 2007 files. We simply did a "Save As" and gave the new version a different name. Each of the workbooks had several worksheets in them. Everything worked perfectly.

He called me this morning to say that he opened the same Excel (2007) files today, but he can't see the tabs for the worksheets, nor can he see the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the page. This is true for all of the files - both the originals and the ones created using "Save As".

I know he hasn't lost any material, but I don't know how to restore/unhide the tabs and scroll bar. When we looked in "Excel Options"/Advanced, the horizontal scroll bar and the "shw sheet tab" check boxes are both checked.

Can you help us restore the view to the way it was so he can see the worksheet tabs and horizontal scroll bar???

For Excel 2010, provided advanced options are set to see scroll bars and worksheet tabs, try this:   with the problem worksheet on the screen go to VIEW, ARRANGE ALL, and check Windows of Active workbook. Worked for me.
