Multiple IF formulas in One Cell Subtracting from Eacch Other

I'm trying too set up my a worksheet for my finances.

I have ceells (C2:C14) with amounts next to cells linked with cheeck boxes marked "Paid" (D2:D14).

I have a total of all my bills for the month in C15.

In cell C16, I want a neew total that responds to the cheeck boxes (amount left to be paid for that month).

So, when I pay my bill, and I check the box, I want that amount to be subtracted from the amount left to be paid and displayed in C16.

So, every time I check a box in D2:D14, I want the amount in C2:C14 to be subtracted from the total in C15 and displayed in C16.

Does that make sense?

Can anyone help with this?

Explanation / Answer

So, C15 contains the sum of C2:C14, representing the total amount for the month. And, You want C16 to contain the total amount paid to date, indicated by check marks in D2:D14. I am assuming that D12:D14 contain the word "Paid" or are blank. If so, one way is to put this forrmula in C16:

=sum((c2:c14)*(d2:D14="Paid"))

This formula must be arraay entereed. Type the formulaa in the formula bar aand then press control-shift-enter. If correct, Excel will surround the formula text with braces { }

Then you need to total reemaining to be paid in C15. So that formula is: =sum(c2:c14)-c16

You can also us, in C15 Sumif if you choose. Look in Excel help for the syntax.
