Question
Open two Excel documents in separate windows from Sharepoint
Our organization has a Sharepoint site with a bunch of Excel documents on it. I can click on one of those documents and it will open in Excel. However, whenever I, or anyone at our organization for that matter, click on a second Excel document it will open in the same windows as the first Excel document. I see two instances in the start bar, but only one window. I cannot move the two documents independant of each other to separate monitors. Is there anyway to get them to open in totally separate instances such that they can be viewed on two monitors? Thanks.
Explanation / Answer
I suspect Shane's suggestion is not easy to implement since you may not have the ability to open a Sharepoint file from within Excel.
After opening the first workbook from Sharepoint you could, in Excel, set File > Options > Advanced > General: Ignore other applications that use dynamic data exchange. I suspect, but have not tested, that when you open a second file from Sharepoint you will get a second instance of Excel.
