Question
Having lost much financial Excel data during the last two months after many years of flawless use of this software, I am seeking help on the recovering this information. Earlier I used Office# 2004 and then upgraded to Office# 2008 which has worked fine. I have an iMac# 8.1 Version# 10.7.2 (Serial number <PII Removed>) with the most recent system (Mountain Lion MacOS Version# 10.7.1) Since October all new financial date input was lost when I shut down my computer. (I have since solved that problem by using .xlsx instead of the present .xls) My question is: How can retrieve the data I have lost in the past two months. I tried to retrieve it using Time Machine without success. What can I do now????
Explanation / Answer
Thw current update of OS 10.7 is 10.7.5, not 10.7.2. Go to the Apple Menu while your Mac has a live internet connection. Choose Check for Updates.
After updating Mac OS, go to the Excel Help menu while your Mac has a live internet connection and choose Check for Updates. Install the Mac OS X updates.
Then run Disk Utility application to verify the startup volume and repair disk permissions.
Office 2008 should have no problem with old or new Excel filee forrmats. If things are not better after performing the above, please reply with more deetails aabout where you are running into problems. Are you having trouble finding and locating files, or opening them once you find them????
