Which selection techniques would you feel most confident in using? Least confident in using? Why? With regard to the fair treatment of workers, the employment of prison inmates and illegal immigrants are two widely discussed issues in the human resource management. HR managers must work diligently to provide the proper opportunities for employees so that they reach some of their personal/professional goals related to social issues. What opportunities could HR professionals provide to members of these two groups? Why should these opportunities be made available? What are the benefits to the job candidate from these two groups and the employing organization?

The personal interview in combination with the psychometric testing, is the method that gives most confidence, because it gives opportunity to make face to face interaction and exchange of views as well as personality profiling using the psychometric test. It can be used to make a match between job description and required personality to the personality and skills of the candidates. The method with least confidence is the presentation method, as it gives a structured opportunity to the candidate to represent themselves and they have already planned for it. It does not elaborate upon the personality traits, ability to work in the team and key skills of the candidate. So, I have less confidence in this selection method.

HR professionals have a responsibility towards the different sections of the society and in this regard, different opportunities can be created for the two groups as mentioned. The first opportunity is the short term training for the individuals belonging to these groups. It will help them to learn the skills and rehabilitation process will be facilitated. The second opportunity is to create volunteering opportunities where the organization can sponsor these people to work in communities. It will help them to join the main stream of the society and start a livelihood as a part of the mainstream economy. The third opportunity is to make suitable profiling and facilitate education. It will make them better citizens and educated person. As a result, their prison terms are waived or they can be given amnesty and become a legal immigrant. So, it is a kind of giving back to the community.

These opportunities should be made available, because it makes these people to be skilled person, a better person and individuals who understand the value of societal living. As a result, crime rates come down and class conflict reduces.
