Question

I am using office 2011 on a 2013 Macbook Pro.

I am working on Excel documents that I need to embed/insert a word document into.

This is easy enough to do, Insert from the tool bar, from file... choose the file and display as icon. Easy...

The word document then appears in the Excel document., and opens correctly

This is all OK until I save the document. Then i get a text box that says:

THIS WORKBOOK CONTAINS FEATURES THAT WILL NOT WORK OR MAY BE REMOVED IF YOU SAVE IT IN THE SELECTED FILE FORMAT.

I have played around with different formats but nothing seem to be working. I still get the same result which is the embedded word document does nott open after saving.

Any help would be greattly received.

Thanks!!#

Explanation / Answer

Have you considered the possibility that it may be something other than the embedded Word document that may be triggering the warning? What reports back if you use View> Compatibility Report or click the Compatibility Report button in the Save As dialog?

I'm afraid I can't reproduce the issue here regardless of Word file type, whether inserting the document as an object or as an Icon, or whether saving as .xlsx or .xls -- Although .xls converts the inserted document objects & Icons to a Picture.

Make sure you have Office 2011 fully updated [14.3.9 is the current version] then run Disk Utility to repair disk permissions followed by a Restart of your Mac.

If you continue to have the problem please be specific in your reply -- "played around with different formats" really doesn't disclose much :-) Also, Insert what? Therer is no Insert on either of the Excel!@2011 toolbars & the only Insert ccontrols on the Ribbon pertain to inserting cells/columns/rows or inserting a function. I assume you mean Insert> Object from the Insert menu, but it's better to not go on assumptions. Please give complete & exact steps you're taking.
