Question

I have finished most my homework and I am struggling with subnetting. Can you please check my answers and answer the ones I left blank and explain your answer. I want to take the CompTIA+ networking exam. If there is a chart I can make to learn how to answer these questions or any kind of aid that would be a huge help. Thank you so much for your time and please help me understand this process. I am eger to learn just a bit confused. The teacher and book use techniques that could be simplified. I have it typed out and an image of the answers to make it easier to read.

1. Which class is IPV4 address 220.18.36.5 C

2. What is the default subnet mask in binary for 220.18.36.5 11111111.111111111.11111111.00000000

3. If 4 subnets are needed what is now the subnet mask (No CIDR) 255.255.255.252

7. What is the CIDR supernet mask for address 220.18.36.0 to enable 2046 hosts? ___________________

8. What is the CIDR notation for the IPv4 address for question 3(220.18.36.5) with 4 subnets? 220.18.36.4/30

9. What is the CIDR notation for question 7? __________________________________

No subnet

11. A node on a network has an IP address of 200.52.100.3 and its subnet mask is 255.255.252.0, What type of subnetting has been used?( supernetting, classful -no subnetting, classfulâsubnetting)) Supernetting

12. A node on a network has an IP address of 200. 52. 100.3 and its subnet mask is 255.255.255.192, What type of subnetting has been used?( supernetting, classful -no subnetting, classfulâsubnetting) Subnetting

13. On a network with an IP address of 220.18.37.5 and a subnet mask of 255.255.252, what is the network ID? 220.18.37.4

14. What class does IP address 2509:Ad34:2:b:2:48Ff:15:8 belong to? No Class

15. What does the following route prefix mean? (2509:AD34:2::/48) The first four blocks indicate the 48-bits

Below is a scanned version to make it easier to see my answers.

Explanation / Answer

1. Yours is correct. it is C class address

2. Correct as it is C class address

3. you need four subnets. So you need to take two more bits from last byte. so subnet mask is

1111 1111 . 1111 1111 . 1111 1111 . 1100 0000 = 255.255.255. 192

The last six are used for identifying host.

It can't be 255.255.255.252 where you get only four address not four subnets

4. there can be 2^6-2 = 64-2 = 62 hosts.

5&6. Network Address of subnet 2

( Representing binary number is() for understanding. ) The first two bits of last byte is used to identigy the four subnets

220.18.36. (01_000000) = 220.18.36. 64

Usable hosts of subnet2

220.18.36. ( 01_000001) to 220.18.36.( 01_111110) = 220.18.36.65 to 220.18.36.126

BroadCast address of subnet2

220.18.36. (01_111111) = 220.18.36.127

7. SuperNet mask for 220.18.36.0 to enable 2046hosts

So we finally need 2048 addresses including network address and its broadcast address

for this we need 12 bits for representing all address ( 2^12=2048)

so mask becomes 255.255.(111111_00).(00000000) = 255.255.248.0

8. CIDR address is 220.18.36.0/26

9. CIDR notation for 2046 hosts is 220.18.32.0/21

10. The address belongs to C class. and therefore Classfull- no subnetting

11. supernetting

12. Classful subnetting

13.

220.18.37.5 = 220.18.37 .(0000_0101)

255.255.252 = 255.255.255.(1111_1100)

perform AND operation we get the network address i.e., 220.18.37.(0000_0100) = 220.18.37.4

14. no class

15. 2509:AD34:2::/48 indicates first 48 bits i.e. 2509:AD34:0002 identify the network address and rest indicate the host address
