Determine the best conflict resolution mode for each of the following situations: a. Two of your functional team members appear to have personality clashes and almost always assume opposite points of view during decision-making. b. R&D quality control and manufacturing operations quality control continually argue as to who should perform testing on an R&D project. R&D postulates that it’s their project, and manufacturing argues that it will eventually go into production and that they wish to be involved as early as possible. c. Two functional department managers continually argue as to who should perform a certain test. You know that this situation exists, and that the department managers are trying to work it out themselves, often with great pain. However, you are not sure that they will be able to resolve the problem themselves.

Explanation / Answer

The conflicts are the problems that arise in a company due to so many factors that we can estimate sometimes and we can’t sometimes. It is very important to find these beforehand so that the result will be solved at an early stage and with ease.

a. The situation here produced is that “The two members existed in my functional team appear to have a personality clashes and almost always assume opposite points of view during the decision-making”. It is one of the drastic situations where it requires the employee to stay with his work of cooperation. The best conflict resolution mode will definitely be making the collaboration between the employees through strategic functions or actions played. The actions would be like conducting different programs of meetings, functions, parties etc.

b. The R&D quality control and Manufacturing Operations are having a conflict of qualifying the testing of the R&D Project. As it a very crucial point for the company where it can produce the best product, both departments will place a very crucial role in producing the product. The best resolution technique will come under Competing Technique, where the qualities of the two industries will be checked at a great stage. The one who is competitive enough will definitely get their need by producing the best that they have.

c. As the problem states that it is completely related to the situation exactly as mentioned above and as it is a conflict situation, so they have to follow the Compromising situation. The positions are related to managerial level, they have to compromise at one stage to produce the result. Here, after compromise, they try to arrange middle-of-the-road without treating situations in depth so that their needs fully met.
