Hello, I just recently started a network class and we have to choose a topic for our final paper.  I don't know enought about networks to make a smart decision at this time...hello that's why I'm in the class.... I don't understand this logic, I don't even know what some of this stuff is, hopefully we will cover most of it as the class goes on.  

Will someone on here please extend an olive branch to me and give some advice on which subject that I will have the best chance of finding the most information and actually comprehending at an intro level?  The paper has to be around 4000 words.  Thanks to any advice!!! :)

Hello, Dont worry as far as I know Computer Networks is a most intresting subject. It is very near to our day to day life as the world is highly depending on data transfer and communications.

Option1 - We see our laboratory consists of many computers connected to a single network is an example for LAN-Local Area Network.

Ethernet has been a relatively inexpensive, reasonably fast, and very popular LAN technology for several decades. I suggest you to take ETHERNET as your project or final paper as it has very large scope and easy to understand.

Option2- PACKET SWITCHING is a technique used by some computer networks to deliver data across a local or global locations. Frame relay is a packet swiching technique. It is also very intresting and knowledge gaining concept.

So you can choose one of them as your final Paper.

As a fresher to this subject I could suggest you to follow classes with out miss them.
