Question

Queuing Exercise 1 Suppose you are operating a medical care center for a large factory. Workers come to the center if they become ill during working hours or if they have an accident requiring medical care. Table below is a history of 30 workers arriving at the clinic over a period of about eight hours. The left part of the table shows the actual times of arrival, when the patients actually started service (met with the doctor), and when they were finished. On the right, calculate from these data: the length of waiting line On the right, calculate from these data: the lenth of waiting line ahead of the arrival (excluding the person being serviced), the interarrival time (time since prior arrival) the actual time taken to service the patient, and the amount of time each patient spent waiting (not including service time). Compute the averages of the above. Explanation / Answer

Length of the queue is calculated by looking for the Serial no of patient number being served at the time of arrival - serial no of the patient which just arrived - 1;

Similarly time for prior arrival is difference between his time of arrival and time of arrival of the previous person;

service time is difference between start and finish of the service;

waiting time is difference between arrival time and start of service
