A) One of your managers hears you have just completed your MBA. He looks at you and smirks and says, "All this emphasis on relationships is overrated. I have always made it clear to my subordinates what they need to do if they want to remain employed. All I have to say to them is 'get it done and you will get rewarded, and if not, there will be consequences.' It truly is that simple! Developing relationships with employees and suppliers or contractors, all that stuff is only good in the textbooks. It never delivers results." Prepare a response to this manager and post it on the discussion board.
Explanation / Answer
Good relationship with employees and suplliers or contractors is extremely good in textbook as well as practically in terms of results, only if when they work as a whole team rather than an individual or group of people. Here the Manager's words clearly shows the superiority and bossiness. Managing Quality is basically managing Human process and it will be ineffective without the fundamental qualities like leadership, teamwork, let the employees to take pride in work. when the manager 'smirks at the employee and delivers his intructions', it takes away the pride of the employee in work. It will have an direct impact in terms of their result.
In order to provide the better relationships with Managers and employees as good and pleasantable in textbook, implement the same in best manner. so the employees will also feel the sense of participation to get the job done and will get rewarded.
Here, the Managers words just shows the perception of nature of individuals. But the employees are in need need of Motivation. So it is suggestable to the Manager in this case to follow the need theory of motivation by McClelland, which exactly states the needs for power, Affiliation and Achievement
