Much of contemporary art addresses issues of identity and identity-construction. One of the main ideas that runs through alot of this work is that who we are is socially-constructed, that our "selves" are a product of the society we live in, especially dependent upon mass media and entertainment (each of us is a "collage" of the people and ideas we find important).

For this discussion, choose an artwork that addresses questions relating to identity. (You may want to do some outside research if you don't want you to use a piece from the book.) Are you drawn to this work because it "speaks" to you, to your own sense of self? Or are you drawn to it because it presents a point of view that you are largely unfamiliar with?
