How do you think the children decided which doll to choose in response to the descriptions used by the researchers, good, bad, pretty, etc. in the first video? How do you think the associations relate to the child's self image or self-esteem? What experiences or observations do you think the children were using to decide on gender role questions like chores, work, and sports, etc.? What did you notice about the boys vs. girls in the gender study? If you were going to design a similar study to look at gender or race associations in children, what would you use and why? Explanation / Answer
From the video we have seen that an experiment was conducted on the choices of doll preferences maximum children answered that they prfer more white doll than the brown doll it because of their PREJUDICES. So PREJUDICES are nothing but it is a pre detemined thought, beleifs, feelings and attitudes of an individual on the rmember of social group. This attitude is on the basis of sex, race, social class, status, ethnicity, skin color, hair color facial structure, gender discrimination etc. Here we have seen that American students have prefered white doll not only for its beautiness but also because of the skin tone that white doll have. So we have seen discrimination on the basis of skin color or shadeism or on the basis of complexion,
From above research that has been conducted on PREJUDICES we see some association, whether the children makes discrimination on the basis of self image or self esteem. Self image means the belief, feeling or aware about oneself i.e., self concept about oneself, we perceive ourself and ideas we hold about our competencies and attributes. On the other hand self esteem is a judgement about our own value and worth. So we can say both self image and self esteem is associated with it because of self group may be the victim of discrimination for target response that is why Maximum children have preferred white doll while on the other hand we can that non Americans have also preferred white doll it is not because of self image but because of self esteem and emotional response is beared on itwhich is determined by cognitive appraisal which shape their personal, situational and structural factor.
In the gender role question we have seen that the work of chores, and in sports we have seen that that each society is distinguished on the basis of social roles of its male and female so here we have seen that girls are more wandering than boys and in the basis of work both are working. so there is gender identity in it. Girls prefer those thing which she want to be and same in the case of boys.
In the girl verses boys study we have seen that biasness on the basis of sexes. So it is their personal experiences or perception of having particular gender which may or may not correspond with their birth identity. It is also their gender expression which include behaviour, outward apperance such as dress hair body language etc They expreses their view on the basis of gender perception that is why boys preferred to be more stronger than girls while girls prefer to be wandering and having long hair as it suits them.
Th the similar study ere conducted I will chose same rario of gender to get accurate result on gender role biasness and identity.
