Interestingly, Horney’s three coping strategies for one’s neurotic needs correlate very well with three of Adler’s different personality types:
Horney’s moving-toward strategy—Adler’s getting or leaning type
Horney’s moving against—Adler’s ruling or dominant type
Horney’s moving away from—Adler’s avoiding type
Using Horney’s theory of coping with neurotic needs with three different interpersonal orientations, select a TV program of your choice containing a character that Horney would identify as exhibiting neurotic behaviors. As you watch a full episode of this show, focus on this character and tally each instance of moving-toward, moving-against, and moving-away behavior.

Bojack horseman, is a perfect character to anylyse from the lens of horneys theorem.
Bojack within the show has a need to move towards Diane and thus the writing of the book, in orderr to have social recognition, prestige and attain the love of Diane thus.
Simultaneously, his interactions with Mr. Peanut Butter is what would constitute as the aspect of moving against people, as he tries to loop in and manipulate Mr. Peanut Butter(PB) due to the stardom that PB experiences and Bojack wishes to acquire.
His relations with the people around him, in general, is what one would label as moving away from people. Bojack general neurotic tendencies, which he often fails to circumvent is something that he cannot overcome. And this often is displayed in the form of an outburst of unwarranted aggressions. But his perpetual state if conflict with respect to wanting fame and people admiration is always marred by his tendencies to be predominantly misanthropic.
Bojack is shown to be a product of the modern material society who is not able to assuage his neurosis due to the conflict that is ever present in his mind with respect to the social environment thst the showbiz environment boasts.
His interpersonal orientation becomes clear and almost endearing by the end of the show as it culminates to show a truly broken man, who is merely trying to live up to his ow expectations and still be loved.
