14) molecules/atoms tend to diffuse the fastest when they are in gaseous state as opposed to liquid or solid state. This is so because the when in vapour or gaseous form they have highest amount of energy as a result of which the inter-atomic bond or the inter-molecular bond is broken/weak allowing the atoms/molecules to move about freely.

Hence when the cake is getting baked, it is hot and the ingredients have lots of energy. So few of its molecules vapourize diffuse through air and reach your nose giving you the sweet aroma . As baking is over and the contents cool down the aroma subsides and us replacement by the smell of the tomato sauce which was getting cooked then and is hot causing it's ingredient molecules to vaporise and diffuse.
