The nerve involved in carrying taste sensation is glossopharyngeal which innervates the posterior one-third part of the tongue. Where VII nerve responsible to carry the taste sensation in the anterior two-thirds of the tongue.

2 Answer- As I write above there is nerve supply to the tongue anterior as well as posterior. For posterior we have the glossopharyngeal nerve and for anterior we have VII nerve Which means we have sensory receptors on tongue both side that why we have sensation on both sides of the tongue.

We can test by the using different taste as follow to identify the taste sensation.

sweet- on the tip of the tongue

salt - on either side of the front of the tongue

sour- behind this

and bitter- way in the back.

The which related taste buds on the left side of the tongue this comes under posterior part of the tongue. There is the supply of glossopharyngeal nerve from the brain. There are chances of problem or blockage in this nerve supply.

4- Answer- Stephens symptoms also showing the problem comes under the posterior parts of the tongue. Which also controlled by glossopharyngeal nerve. Stephens has improper signal sensation transform in this area. Stephens glossopharyngeal nerve got week or damage.
