Explanation / Answer

Transmission mainly occur by vertical transmission, mainly during time of the child birth, because of blood of foetus coming in contact with mother, or due to maternal secretion transfer to foetus, transmission also occur by the placenta, and at time of breast feeding via cracked nipples.

Prevention of mother to child transmission (pmtct),

Its mainly by starting anti retroviral drugs to the mother as soon as the hiv detected in the mother, and after birth of baby anti hiv drugs must be started within 12 week of child birth.

Hiv is mainly concentrated in high amount in the blood of the mother, but its also present in vaginal secretions, & fluid secreted at time of vaginal delivery, they also contain high concentration of hiv virus.
