Aplastic anaemia is a hematologic condition characterized by reduced levels of all types of blood cells (including the WBCs). Aplastic anemia = Bone marrow failure and it is a rare disease characterized by damage to bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cells. This leads to a deficiency of RBC, WBC, and platelets. In disease condition, fat replaces bone marrow cells. It can be caused by exposure to harmful chemicals or by autoimmune deficiencies. As we know that lymphocytes and macrophages are major components of the immune system, aplastic anemia is characterized by compromised immune system function.

Aplastic anemia is characterized by an imbalance in lymphocyte activation either as a result of bone marrow failure or as a contributing factor. Hence the first line treatment includes immunosuppression. Patients with this disease typically show reduced reticulocyte count. Treatment includes Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and immune suppression.

Marie curie died of aplastic anaemia, which is caused by excessive exposure to radiation, So, the haematocrit value decreases due to the abnormally low RBC levels. The symptoms of Marie Curie are due to the deficiency of RBC (paleness, fatigue, and rapid heart rate), WBC (easy bruising, prolonged bleeding from cuts).

As her blood group is A negative, she can receive blood from A negative and O negative individuals. Because the transfusion with other blood groups causes agglutination reaction.
