Question
Starting at the dorsal surface, at the midline, at the level of C7, identify and describe the basic structural microanatomy of all tissue layers and specific structures that you would encounter moving ventrally, up to and including the central canal. Be sure to include the ligamentum nuchae as well as the overlying musculature. Consult your book for images to help guide you. The point is to start with the surface epithelium, pass through the integument and continue through the underlying tissues all the way to and through the cervical vertebra and spinal cord.
Explanation / Answer
Starting from surface epithellium - first their is subcutaneous tissue than superficial investing layer of the deep cervical fascia, then trapezius muscle ,then deep investing layer of deep cervical fascia, then prevertebral layer of deep cervical fascia, then splenius capatis then semispinalis capatis, then longisimus capatis, then lamina of cervical vertebra followed by spinal cord.
