Bio 142 Disease Brochure

The goal of this assignment is to create an informational brochure on a disease. This brochure should be appropriate for patients in a doctor’s office. The brochure should be of a tri-fold design, with six columns of information.

Each student will sign up for a topic based on the chapters in the Bio 142 curriculum. Students will present the disease brochure to the class on the day prior to the exam on those chapters. I have attached a tri-fold brochure template. You are welcome to use or edit the template or create your own. You can bring a copy of your brochure for each of your classmates or you can bring a copy to me earlier and I can copy it for you.

The brochure will have the following components:

1. Name the disease.

2. Cause of the disease.

3. Symptoms of the disease.

4. How is the disease diagnosed?

5. Treatment and prognosis of the disease.

6.  Appropriate images.

7. All disease information must have an appropriate referenced source. (My friend told me or Wikipedia are not appropriate)

8. A section on "Further Information". This section may contain links to sites on the disease, support groups, and other helpful information for patients.

Example of dibetes mellitus

1 Diabetes mellitus

2 causes- DM occurred due to two cause-

a) deficiency of insulin hormone- type 1 DM

b) insulin resistant in the peripheral tissue- type 2 DM

3) symptoms of DM are-

Polyuria- increased urinary volume & frequency.

Polydipsia- drinking more water

Fatigue, weakness due unavailability of glucose to the cells for utilisatuon.

Diabetic retinopathy, diabetic nephropathy...etc

4) Disease is diagonosed by measuring fasting blood glucose level > 125 mg per dl and post prandial after 2hr level is > 200 mg/ dl is diagnostic for DM.

Also check for glycosylated Haemoglobian HbA1c level.

5) treatment in type 1 is insulin theraphy.

And in type2 Dm give anti diabetic glucose lowering drugs...

Oral hypoglycemic drugs like biguanides metformin and sufonylureas drgs.
