Question
Please help with animal physiology question. please clearly explain. thank you.
question: You are a graduate student in my lab and a person shows up with a bag of frogs. He says that inside are two species of frog, one species that he collected yesterday from a lake in Winters, CA (water temperature = 8°C) and one species that he collected today (we have time travel in my lab) from a swamp in Costa Rica (water temperature = 25°C). He can’t remember which species is which. What aspect of cellular physiology could you examine to determine which species came from water at 8°C and which species came from water at 25°C. What specifically would you look for to assign the frogs to one group or the other?
Explanation / Answer
We will look for enzymatic activity
The frog from 25 degree will have higher enzymatic activity than the frog at 8 degree because with increase in temprature the enzymatic activity increases upto a certain limit until the denaturation of proteins.
We will look for km value of the enzyme.it is the concentration of substrate require to reach half of Vmax.if the enzyme activity is more,Km will be low.25 degree frog will require less substrate thus will have lower Km value
