Question
6 In the condition hyperthyroidism, patients have elevated levels of both T3 and T4 due to a malfunction of the immune system that causes the thyroid gland to overproduce thyroid hormones. Do you think the negative feedback loops would lead to high levels of TSH or low levels of TSH? Explain. 16 90 In case 3 of Exercise 16-4 (p. 437), we saw that Professor Purple had insufficient antidiuretic hormone (ADH). However, the opposite condition can also occur in which excess ADH is present, called syndrome of inappropriate ADH secretion. Predict the symptoms of this condition. Exploring Anatomy & Physiology in the LaboratoryExplanation / Answer
6.Hyperthyroidism means the state of oversensitive or overproductive or overactive thyroid .In this thyroid gland produces excessive amount of thyroxin hormone .
Negative feedback back loop will decrease or lower down the level of TSH.Negative feedback keeps concentration of a hormone within a narrow and manageable range.Hypothalamus produces TRH this causes anterior pituitary gland to produce TSH this causes thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4.
Level of TSH will lower down but thyroid hormone production will not decrease as it's stimulation is independent of TSH. Lower TSH level is key diagnostic test for hyperthyroidism. It's rare kind .it causes graves diseases.
7.Excessive production of ADH means the syndrome of inappropriate ADH. It is caused by the diseased hypothalamus or heart failure .cancers may also be a cause ,meningitis ,brain tumor, lung disease ext
Symptoms of SIADH
Nausea ,vomiting,cramps ,tumor,depressed mood,irritability,hallucinations,confusion,seizures,coma or stupor etc.
