1.Pulmonary ventilation refers to the air flow into the lungs which is inhalation and out of the lungs which is exhalation.This airflow is because of the pressure difference between the atmosphere and due to the gases inside the lungs.

2.Pulmonary gas exchange is external respiration.This is a process of gas exchange between the lungs and the external environment.

3.Oxygen is been transported in the blood by two ways.1.5percent of oxygen is carried to the plasma as dissolved gas.98.5percent carried into the blood is bound to haemoglobin in RBC.

4.Tissue gas exchange is commonly reffered to as internal respiration and this in the process in which the respiratory gases are exchanged between the blood and tissue of the body.

5.The action of drawing air into the lungs is called inspiration.

6.The exhalation of the breath from the lungs.

7.A law which states that the pressure of a given mass of ideal gas is inversely proportional to its volume at a constant temperature.

8.Atmospheric pressure is the pressure which is exerted by the weight of the atmosphere which is 760 mm hg at sea level.

4.Residual volume is the volume of air remaining in the lungs after maximal exhalation.It is 1200ml in males and 1000ml in females.

5.The total amount of air that can be drawn into the lungs after normal expiration is called inspiration capacity.3500 in males and 2600ml in females.

6. FRC is the volume of air which is present in the lungs at the end of the passive expiration.It is 2300ml in Males and 1800ml in females.

7.The greatest volume of air that can be expelled from lungs after taking deepest possible breath is called vital capacity.It is 4600ml in males and 3400ml in females

8.Total lung capacity is the maximum amount of air the lungs can hold.It is 5800ml in males and 4300ml in females.
