ID: 3514946 • Letter: A

Question

A. List one muscle that performed extension of the hip.

B. Which muscle extends the knee and flexes the hip?

C. List one muscle that dorsiflexes the foot

D. Which three muscles extend the thigh and flex the knee?

E. List three muscles that abduct the leg

F. List one muscle from the list below that is named for its function. Explain your answer.

Muscles: Adductor longus, biceps femoris, gastrocnemius, gluteus maximus, gluteus minimus, gracilis, pectineus, piriformis, psoas major, psoas minor, quadratus femoris, sartoris, semimembranosus, senitendinosus, soleus, tensor fasciae latae, tibialis anterior, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis

Explanation / Answer

A. Gluteus maximus is the muscle that performed extension of the hip.

B. The rectus femoris muscle is one of the four quadriceps muscles of the human body.( Vastus medialis, vastus intermedius and vastus lateralis). All these muscles are attached to the knee through quadriceps tendon. The hamstring group muscles i.e semitendinosus, semimembranosus and biceps femoris flex the knee and extend the hip.

It's function is to flex the thigh at the hip joint and to extend the leg at the knee joint.

C. The muscle that dorsiflexes the foot is gastrocnemius and soleus.

D. The three muscles extend the thigh and flex the knee are-

Biceps femoris

Semitendinosus

Semimembranosus.

E. The three muscles that abduct the leg -

Gluteus medius

Gluteus minimus

Tensor fasciae.

F. Muscles:

Adductor longus - adducts thigh

Biceps femoris - hip extension and knee flexion

Gastrocnemius - plantar flexion of foot

Gluteus maximus - extension of hip

Gluteus minimus - external rotation of thigh

Gracilis - adduction and flexion of hip

Pectineus - adduction and flexion of hip

Piriformis - lateral rotation and abduction of thigh

Psoas major - flexion rotation of hip

Psoas minor - external rotation of hip

Quadratus femoris - it is a lateral rotator and adductor of thigh

Sartoris - it is a flexion, abduction and lateral rotation of hip and flexion of knee.

Semimembranosus - present in hip extension and knee extension

Sentitendinosus - present in hip extension and knee extension

Soleus - planar flexion of foot

Tensor fasciae latae - it abducts the thigh and assists with internal rotation and medial rotation.

Tibialis anterior - present in dorsiflexion of foot.

Vastus lateralis - knee extension

Vastus medialis - knee extension.
