Question

Elbow 1.List the differences in elbow and radioulnar joint movement and muscle activity between turning a door knob clockwise and pushing the door open, versus turning the knob counterclockwise, pulling the door closed. 2. The elbow joint is the distal insertion of what biarticular muscles? Describe what motions they are involved in at the elbow and the superior joint of muscular origin. Wrist and Hand 1. List the planes in which each of the following wrist, hand and finger joint movements occur. List the respective axis of rotation for each movement in each plane. Plane Axis a. Abduction b. Adduction c. Flexion d. Extension

Explanation / Answer

1. Elbow joint EXTENTION Movement in pushing the door open, by triceps brachii and anconeus contraction and elbow joint FLEXION MOVEMENT in pulling the door closed by biceps brachii, brachiradialis, brachialis contracts.

At radioulnar joint SUPINATION movement to turn the door knob clockwise by supinator and biceps brachii muscle contraction and PRONATION MOVEMENT to turn the door knob anticlockwise by pronater quadratus and pronater teres contraction.

2 triceps muscle is only biarticular mjscle that invove shoulder and elbow both joint and insert at elbow ditally

Action of triceps brachii at elbow is forearm extension and at shoulder it helps in retroversion & extend shoulder and adduction of arm.
