The Knowledge Management planning committee would like to evaluate performance measures—“Does our system have all the right measures in place?” Your large, multiple-site HCO generates about 2,000 different measures each month, supporting several hundred operational scorecards and strategic scorecards for each service line or geographic site. “Are we missing measures that would improve mission achievement?” was the theme of the committee’s discussion. You’ll be forming a performance improvement team (PIT). You want to explain to the PIT what constitutes a “right measure” or how we identify measures that will improve mission achievement.

Explanation / Answer

Evaluation of performance is key to any organization to control the outcome process. Continuous evaluation is necessity to know the gap what the organisation wanted and what the employees are delivering.The task is quite cumbersome and needed adequate anaylsis of the mission and goal of the organization to properly ascertain what are the right measures for the organization. It may be following things

- The goal of the organization should be define properly. Individual goals should be allign with coprorate strategy

- Monitoring of progress towards goal by each individual and guiding themif someone is lagging behind.Proper coaching and training should be provided to those individual who are getting difficult to achieved their individual goal.

- I will suggest to use SMART approach to know right measures. S- Specific performance measures, M- Measurable performance which should be objcetive rather than subjcetive, A- Achievable- The perfomance measure should be achievable by the individuals it should not be vague, R- Relevent-It should be relevant to the organization and in congruence with mission statementand T- Timely- A time period should be assigned.
