Name: Date: Section #: Lab 3: Neurophysiology Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to test the learning and memory ability of mice. To understand brain activity in humans using an EEG Directions: EXPERIMENT 1 Choose a station with your group. One member from group will attain a small "basket" and another member will choose a mouse. Wearing gloves, pick up mouse BY THE TAIL and place into "basket. Return to station. Once at the station, as a group, decide where you want the platform to be. This platform 1· 2. cannot be moved once decided. This will be the END point for your mouse. Also whorveris stonding nearby cannot move, The mouse uses visual cues to help it remember where the platform is. Have one member of the group be the timekeeper and one member to be the data recorder 3. 4. Grabbing the mouse by its tail, place it on the platform for 2 minutes. This wil allow the mouse to become familiar with the "safe zone" and give it a chance to remember visual cues. Once 2 minutes are over, pick up the mouse and drop it into the water an timer. Re time Allow the mouse to find the platform. Once it has reached the platform and is "safe," record this time. A maximum of 45 seconds is allowed for the mouse to find the platform. If your mouse has not found the platform after 45 seconds, remove mouse from the water and place it onto the platform. Record this time as 45 seconds. Allow mouse to rest on the platform for 1 minute. Once time is up, take the mouse back to its basket for 30 seconds. Once 30 seconds are up, drop the mouse in the same spot in the water. Repeat this step 9 more times start the 5. 6. 7. Once all trials are completed, place mouse back into its cage. EXPERIMENT 2 1. Follow the step-by-step instructions in Lab Tutor under the lab titled "EEG.
