Q) Neuromuscular principle:

Isometric contraction of muscle fibres.

Isometric contraction refers to the contraction of muscle fibres against a force or stimulus without decreasing the muscle length.

Here, the muscle involved is gastrocnemius muscle ( at the back of lower legs ). The gastrocnemius muscle has a capability of forceful and rapid contraction which is used in jumping.

IMPORTANT (EXPLANATION):

In standing position with less bending of knee, the gastrocnemius muscle is more elongated and contracts with more force ( for example the more you stretch a rubber band , the more rapidly and forcefuly it will contract back to its original position ) . THEREFORE , the person in standing position tends to fall earlier on ground causing short jump .

Likewise , when knees are bend at a larger angle 45degrees or more, the gastrocnemius muscle is not so elongated and therefore contracts with less force/recoil . ( same as a rubber band which is when less stretched recoils with less force ) . SO, the person making a long jump is able to jump to a larger distance as his muscles recoil slowly as compared to standing position with less bending.
