What are the main functions of skin?

Explanation / Answer

2-2

A. BASEMENT MEMBRANE

The basement membrane is defined as the delicate membrane which is made up of protein fibres and muccopolysaccharides that helps in separating the epithelium from underlying tissues.this basement membrane varies from place to place in certain diseases.

B. MATRIX

Matrix is defined as insoluble gel-like substance which is present in a plant or animal cell within which the cell organelles are embedded. It acts as the supporting system of the cell.

C.PSEUDOSTRATIFIED

When an epithelium consists of closely packed cells but it appears to be arranged in layers where they are actually attached to the basement membrane. This phenomenon of false stratification is known as Pseudostratification.

D.STRATIFIED

Stratified cells consist of epithelial cells which are arranged in layers over a basement membrane. the end layer has an attachment with the basement layer whereas other layers play a role in structural integrity.

2-3

A.Forms mucus and epidermal membranes - epithelial tissue

B.transmits electrical impulses - nervous tissue

C.supports body organs - connective tissue

D.makes up the major controlling system of the body - connective tissue

E.Forms hormones - epithelial tissue

F. Has a large, non-living matrix - connective tissue

G.Most abundant tissue type - muscle tissue

H.Allows for body movements - muscle tissue

2-4.

The main functions of skin are

*it helps in PROTECTION of the human body

*it helps in SENSORY TRANSMISSION

*TEMPERATURE REGULATION

*Helps in EXCRETION. ABSORPTION
