The new models use fuzzy logic.When the cuff has been inflated to this pressure,no blood flow occurs through the artery.As the cuff is deflated below the systolic pressure,thus the reduced pressure exerted on it allows bood to flow through them nadsets up detectable vibration in the arterial wall present.

The best device for most people is the cuff with inflating armcuffand digital readout but it is good to do a test every year.
