Turmeric & Spice want you to survey all the spice importers in their business. You know that the average rate of response to email and electronic surveys is 30% and that T&S has 100 importers located around the world. Create a metric based plan for building buy-in from the importers so that you do get at least 30% (and hopefully greater) participation. The plan should include the timing building and delivering the survey, and analysis of the data. Your plan must add value to the organization through measurement and evaluation. Explanation / Answer

To get a higher participation , there are going to be the following three stages:

1. Identify what needs to questioned? : You need to identify first whether you need to survey your importers? or that data could be readily retrieved from online reports.

2. Idenftify the means to get the importer information: Is online survey or email the best option? Try calling up or meeting the importers, conducting a focussed group discussion could be highly effective in determining,  

3. Measure the data obtained through online and offline channels of information gathering.

The focus could be to first identify the top 20% of the critical importers. The top importers should be focussed to have a paersonal meeting, that would help understand the problem and propose solutions face to face. That will also help establish a stronger interpersonal connect.

For the tail end of importers, the focus should be to get the responses over emails. The questionnares should be simple with a likert scale/ subjective answers that will enable the importer to put forth their perspective rather than being forced to think objectively on the lines that the T&S company wants him/ her to.

For the remaining importers the responses could be obtained over telephonic discussions.

The data obtained from all three sources, can be mapped to identify the clusters. The custering would be the suitable exercise that will help to group the importers as per their nature and needs.

Hence the problem solving here will be two dimensional, one with focus on the significance of importer and the other dimension would be the cluster to which the importer belongs.
