Explain how negative-feedback mechanisms control respiratory rates when a person is at rest and when a person is exercising (include receptors, sensors, and effectors- and remember that this system has major redundancy built into it-explain more than one system!!). Also, explain why a person who hyperventilates before attempting to swim underwater, often can swim farther underwater than someone who does not hyperventilate, but runs a higher risk of passing out and drowning. Explain this in terms of the feedback mechanism.

Negative feedback mechanism occurs when there is an excess levels of ATP recrutes and leads to the pause of glycolysis. This can be said as negative feedback mechanism. This can be very in resting positn and also in excreise.

During resting condition there will high rate of ATP in the cell so it can be hardly consumes and recruited in the cell and prevent glycolysis which induces the production of less carbon dioxide.

During exercise the body muscles require lot of ATP, so in this condition ATP levels will drop, so it recruits glycolysis to take place for the production of ATP in the cell. For this more oxygen require so more carbon dioxide produced. So the respiratory rate will increase.

When the person is hyperventilate, there is a low level maintenance of carbon dioxide can be seen in the body. So he can urge to breath more after holding breath for a while. So the blood become alkali. In this case the person shallow water. When it happens there will be little or no urge for air. So it is a positive feedback. The level of carbon dioxide become less and less untill there will be no other chance.
