Select a different color for a nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, basement mem- brane. goblet cell, and cilla whenever visible As a result of your observations of epithelial tissues which one(s) providets) the best protection? Explain your answer

Explanation / Answer

PART-A 1) Simple squamous epithelium They are thin single layer of flattened cells with irregular outlines. Location: capillary walls, serous membrane in body cavity and air sacs in the lungs Function: Filtration of the blood and diffusion of small molecules.

B.Simple cuboidal epithelium:- it is a type of epithelium that consists of a single layer of cuboidal (cube-like) cells.

Location.found in organs that are specialized for secretion, such as salivary glands and thyroid follicles, and those that are specialized for diffusion, such as the kidney tubules.

Function: secretion and absorption.

C.simple columnar epithelium :- it is a columnar epithelium that is uni-layered.

Location: it lines most organs of the digestive tract including the stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. Simple columnar epithelia line the uterus.

Function :- secretion, absorption, digestion and maintaining immunity in the digestive system.role in fertility too.

D.A pseudostratified columnar epithelium :- it is a special type of simple epithelium that consists of a falsely-stratified single layer of epithelial cells resting on a basement membrane.

Location :-it is found in the linings of the trachea as well as the upper respiratory tract and in male vas deferens.

Function: they help to collect foreign materials so you can cough or sneeze them out.

E.Stratified columnar epithelium:- It is a rare type of epithelial tissue composed of column shaped cells arranged in multiple layers.

Location:- it is found in the conjunctiva of the eye, in parts of the pharynx, anus, the uterus, and the male urethra and vas deferens.

E.Transitional epithelium :- it is a stratified epithelium in which the shape of the surface cells changes depending on the degree of stretch.

Location:- it forms the mucosal lining of ureters, a portion of urethra, and urinary bladder.

Function:The transitional epithelium cells stretch readily in order to accommodate fluctuation of volume of the liquid in an organ.

Part b.

A.Areolar Tissue:- it is loose connective tissue that consists of a meshwork of collagen, elastic tissue, and reticular fibres - with many connective tissue cells in between the meshwork of fibres.

Location .is also found in or around mucous membranes, and around blood vessels, nerves, and the organs of the body.

Function:- Areolar connective tissues hold organs in place and attaches epithelial tissue to other underlying tissues. It also serves as a reservoir of water and salts for surrounding tissues.

B.Adipose tissue: it is an anatomical term for loose connective tissue composed of adipocytes.

Location :- beneath the skin (subcutaneous fat), around internal organs (visceral fat), in bone marrow (yellow bone marrow), intermuscular (Muscular system) and in the breast tissue.

Function:-store energy in the form of fat, although it also cushions and insulates the body..

C.Dense connective tissue:- it is a type of connective tissue with fibers as its main matrix element. The fibers are mainly composed of type I collagen.

Location :- ligament and tendons .

Function:' Tendons attach skeletal muscles to bones; ligaments connect bones to bones at joints.

D.hyaline cartilage:-It is glass-like (hyaline) but translucent cartilage.

Location:- initial skeleton of the fetus, epiphyseal growth plate (epiphyseal discs) in bones, articular cartilages of joints, trachea, bronchi, larynx, nose, the ends of the ribs.

Function:-it provides smooth surfaces, enabling tissues to move/slide easily over each other.

E.Elastic cartilage :- also called as yellow cartilage.it is a type of cartilage present in the outer ear.

Location :- present in the outer ear, Eustachian tube and epiglottis.

Function:- gives flexibility.
