. (2 points) List at least two health benefits bestowed by colonic bacteria. ATP and ADP are important allosteric regulators in human metabolism by allowing cells to respond quickly to changes in energy demands. i. (2 points) Provide exam 2 porntay Provwide an example of a metabolic enzyme tht is alsterically regulated by either ATP or ADP (2 points) Describe the mode of regulation of the enzyme you listed above (e.g., positi regulated by ATP, or negatively regulated by AMP), j. vely k. (2 points) Which metabolic pathway does the enzyme you listed above function in? I. (2 points) Explain why it makes physiologic sense for enzyme you listed above to be regulated in this manner?Explanation / Answer
ANSWER: 1 The bacteria that found in the colon part of large intestine are known as colonic bacteria. e.g. E.coli and Bacillus sps. These are helpful to provide good hygeine to alimentary canal (digestive tract) and produce some factors against harmful microflora of intestine.
But beneficial microflora (E.coli and Bacillus sps.) produce some essential vitamins (Vitamin-K) necessary for blood clotting and severe biochemical reaction.
ANSWER: (i) Phosphofructokinase (PFK) is a metabolic enzyme in the process of glycolysis that catalyses the phosphorylation of fructose 6- phosphate to fructose 1,6- biphosphate. PFK is allosterically regulated by ATP or ADP.
ANSWER: (j) The enzyme phosphofructokinase (PFK) is inhibited allosterically (negatively regulated) by the high level of ATP (adenosine di-phosphate).
ANSWER: (k) PFK (phosphofructokinase) catalyses fructose 6-phosphate by phosphorylation and perform its function in the third step of glycolysis or GMP pathway in respiration.
