Question

Moral Relativism - This false world view and approach to Ethics holds that things, reality and even so-called moral principles are “what” we personally say they are. They have no independent, objective reality, meaning or definition outside of one’s own mere personal, subjective opinions, viewpoints and thoughts. Our personal thinking determines the meaning and purpose of reality. What I think and feel rules all. And, this is true for each person. There is no greater Truth than our selves and our viewpoint. We own our bodies and our lives. We have no one to answer to but ourselves. There is no such thing as absolute Truth. There are also no universal, objective Moral Goods or Moral evils. What is morally good is 'in the eye of the beholder' and is based solely upon the circumstances and motives of the individual, in his or her own situation. "Who am I to judge?" "Whatever!" These are the frequently heard mottos of those who hold this false moral philosophy and dangerous worldview.

This means 3 key points for this false theory of moral relativism. Where do you see this false ethical theory of moral relativism operating in our culture today, or even your work place, today?

Explanation / Answer

False ethical relativism can be seen in todays society.

1) The discrimination to women in many parts of world is considered ethical in many parts of world. This is best evident in female genital mutilation in many tribes of south asia, and aftica. Female genital mutilation is justified based on culture and belief but such explaination does not hold true.

A belief on premarital sex. In asian countries it is considered inauspicious while in western world premarital sex is considered an usual thing. So if asian countries force this philosophy and declare a person unethical on this ground would be a false relativism.
