Air traffic control is one of the most high stress jobs in the U.S. You have recently been assigned to lead a stress-management task force. Using information found in the textbook, combined with online research, write up a plan on how you would first identify those under considerable stress, and then work to keep all employee stress levels manageable. Explain whether you would need to adapt your plan for men and women, and for people from different cultures. If so, how?

Stress is a bodily reaction that is triggered in the presence of an stimuli whichs difficult to assimilate beyond an individual's normal operational level. It is basically a stimuli that interferes and disrupts normal bodily equilibrium of a person. Understand and defining the causes of stress and help one initiate a planned action tocope up and with it. Air trafic control employees can face number if stimuli that creates physiological and psychological burnout. Few of them are as follows.
Stress can be both environment and work related. Physical conditions that triggers stess can have adverse effects on physical body and psyche, as well. For example, physical stressors like persistent radio communication noise,overcrowding, inflating extreme temperature,vibration cramped workstation etc can not only lead to lack of sleep,anxiety,constant pain in the body(all psycho-somatic), but can also have eminent effects on the physical body , like difficulty in hearing and loss of weight due to stress etc.Work related stress can be of multiple characters. For example, the employee in the aviation industry is often met woth work dilemma. The pressure from the above management is intense to ensure a delivery of quality services. However, sometimes it interferes with the demands for the safe service , where the cause of workforce stress is induced among the employee.If the pilot is instructed to take off the flight on pre determined time, the issues of safety is neglected, but the management is satisfied ; and If the pilot prioritizes the safety of the passengers and delay the departure of the flight, the management is dissatisfied.These double conflict agents can causes immense work related stress. The work job strain model explains the highest stress related stimuli and stress related problems that will occur during a course of employment with low decision latitude. ( Dr. Robert A. Karasek).
Few of the ways that includes healthy coping mechanisms of stress are as follows.Training-The employee should be given training and be well versed with the flight situation that are critical and aren't frequent occurring.Training on how to respond to these critical situation effectively should be given to the employee to reduce the potential stress due to unanticipated event. Planning-This is followed by another stress reducing technique called planning. While all employees are aware of the nominality of regular situations.The appearance of any sudden stimuli that demands quick and effective response can create anxiety and a feeling of helpnessness in both employees and passengers.Workshops on how to deal with sudden unanticipated situation must be given to the employees. It is crucial to format a sound plan for implementation in such scenario.Wellness- It is crucial for the employees to be in a healthy state of mind while operating in the work station. Multiple workshop session can be introduced for psychological well being, which should involve psychological testing of stress in each employee,identifying stress causing agents and preparing a group intervention to deal with it effectively. Incorporation of breathing techniques , Yoga and other mindfulness therapy can be introduced to heal the psychological and physiological burnout caused due to stress in the work.
