Explanation / Answer

Sports and race, both of the categorical representations in the society is a product of phenotype physicality that precedes socialization. On one hand, race is is segregation of humans based on phenotype and geography. Sports , on the other hand appears is polar of the racial division. It is a physical activity that unites the society. However, racism does not evaporate with its unison with sports. Associating race and sports dates back to colonization. For example, British tried to justify their colonial empire , mass loot and murder of indigenous people of Africa and South Asia, with the idea of race. They introduced English custom of playing Cricket in India, as a medium to civilize the colonised population. Racism, race and sports are intertwined through historical era , and its presence can still be witnessed today (in America).Sports has become a space that has created racial identity formation and stereotyped certain race. For example, basketball in America is viewed as a sports where the black community excel. In present times, the linkage of black success in certain athletic sports is often linked to the atheltic body and stamina of a black man. However, success of a white man in any particular sport is linked to the virtue of his hard work. For example, while explaining the victory of American cyclist lance Armstrong , media emphasised his dedication and commitment for his excellent victory. However, when a black player wins a tournament, for example Kobe Bryant, media emphasises his 'natural atheltic' ability for his outstanding performance. This not only undermines black athletic excellence, commitment and hardwork, but also outpours racism in sports. The white supremacy ideology of sports doesn't end on racial profiling. It has created gender disparity, as well, by profiling and stereotyping men and women. As we know, gender is a socially constructed tool and attributing characteristics to each gender is its inevitable product. While men are stereotyped as masculine, muscular and a tough gender, woman are percieved as naive, fragile and a docile body. This stereotyping of the psychological and physical attributes has destroyed the possibilities of achieve true potential of the self. For example, a woman can be a excellent in computation, programming and coding but due to good old stereotype of 'women aren't good in maths', this disrupts her chances of getting employed by the best of I.T companies .Similarly, a man can be an excellent creative make up artist, but due to patrichal stereotyping of men as 'masculine and muscular ', it destroys his chances of providing his services to the fashion industry. One cannot deny that we as a society has made progressed and diverged from the conservative characteristizatiom of each gender, but we still have a long way to go.
