Question 1. In this discussion forum, discuss your feelings on the morality of capital punishment in general, and more specifically on our system of justice. Statistics seem to show that those who are born in impoverished neighborhoods or with parents who have been in prison will be much more likely to commit crimes and end up in prison. Does this mean that there is an element of determinism in the lives of those who end up in prison? Does this make our legal system unjust, or unethical? Relate this back to the film clips from the Freakonomics movie that discussed the relationship between abortion and lower crime rates. 1.View on the morality of capital punishment- Punishment by death or capital punishment is a useless profusion of punishment because it had never made people better. One of the strongest agruement for this punishment that it deterrs severe crime has been proven wrong.The 1988 survey conducted by UN to determine the relationship between the death penality and homicide failed to prove that death penality had greater deterrent effect than life imprisonment.Its the fear of being caught and life sentence that made an individual to keep away from committing serious crime as murder than the capital punishment.Every one has a right to live,even those who commit murder has this right.Sentencing a person to death and executing them violates this right.It's not a justice done on their part to take a life for a life.This system should be reviewed and more reformative system should be introduced where a person acknowledges his/her crime,repents for it and is ready to reform.

The statistics do show a level of determinism that play a part in crime level in the society . Environment and biological make up do effect the personality of each individual but each individual has a free will.Not all the persons with criminal parents and impoverished neighborhood become criminal also not necessarily a good environment and good family upbringing keep a person from committing crime.Both determinism and freewill play their parts in society in crimes.
