Question

Psychologists have discovered that human beings experience several different states of consciousness during the course of a day. For example, people have times when they are especially alert and times when they are awake but not alert, often called "daydreaming." Also, while people are asleep, they experience different stages of sleep, each characterized by different patterns of brain and bodily activity. In a multi-paragraph essay, discuss the different states of consciousness that you have experienced in the past 24 hours, including any periods when you were asleep, alert, or "daydreaming." Be sure to describe both the brain and bodily activity you experienced during each state of consciousness. Include information from class materials, readings, and research on states of consciousness to support your discussion.

Explanation / Answer

Stage 1 sleep indicates that stage of consciousness not only go into each other, but often are not recognized.
Many people have very less time of sleep called as microsleeps of 5-50 seconds at a time, especially when driving late night. Often they are not experienced as microsleeps, not even as blips of changed consciousness - with arw sometimes fatal in condition ..

2 Delirium - it is the fluctuating states to confuse the people. It is observed in elderly people, who shift suddenly from talking about the serious matter like stock market to suddenly forgetting the name or their place. However, alcohol or Marijuana, more confirmly produce the same effect.

3. Early morning wakefulness. Getting up is found hard many times as our cold brain tries to warm up and notice the change. This is important state which is somewhere between stage 1 sleep and wakefulness, and can go in and out rapidly before people stop hitting the snooze control and actually come from bed.Coming out, moving, and seeking sunlight are many ways to start to get awake. However, full alertness may still be hours away

4. REM sleep - commonly thought of as dream sleep (we actually can dream in any stage of sleep). Temperature controls disappear, while the many connection of brain still communicate with each other in a sometimes, attempt to take the new information of the previous day, link it with old memories, and make it into newer memory and information the body then uses to remake itself. A time of thoughts and memory, including peak testosterone production, REM produces as it helps remake the brain become called as complex dreams.

5. Deep sleep - it appears in the first part of the night and close to coma. Also a time of massive rewiring, deep sleep even occurs when growth hormone is pulsed out into the blood. In deep sleep you grow, though we may not be able to be forcefully awakened for more minutes - Hence deep sleep. It where sleep walking and other related sleep movements occur. Generally they are not remembered - because we are in deep sleep. These "confusional arousals" probably occur because the circuitry turning off physical movements fails
