8. How much does the extent of modeling depend on established behavior? In other words, do you think these children would have also displayed aggressive behavior in a familiar situation, or was their behavior affected by the fact that they were interacting with a new toy in a new situation?

9. Based on Bandura's study, should our society limit the amount of violence portrayed in television and video games?

Explanation / Answer

9. Based on bandura's study it was observed that a once believed idea that seeing others impart aggression , there is an increase in the aggressive drive. It was observed that even though there was no guns displayed in the modelling, the children who were given access to the aggressive modelling and rough language, did get inclined towards picking up the gun and also picked up the rough language very easily. Children who didn't have exposure to the aggressive modelling, did not pick up the gun. This clearly states that with the increasing amount of violence being portrayed in the cinemas there has been a passive impact in the subconscious of the children which was observed very well in this experiment. Also, it was seen that the children who were exposed to the aggressive modelling devised new ways of hitting the doll with the objects present in the room. This implies that with the variety of crime episodes and violence being shown in the cinemas the viewers are more inclined towards violence with devising novel ways of accomplishing the same. Hence , the amount of violence portrayed in the films should be reduced.

8. When compared to the control group, it can be seen that the behaviour of the children is being shaped by what they are seeing and the non familiarity of the situation. When the control group children were exposed to non aggressive modelling, even after allowing them to play with the boo boo doll there was far less aggressive attempts, just as they had observed. This implies that the extent of modelling may shape the established behaviour but not to a great extent. They did what they saw, in other words, the children imitated the actions of the model performing the act and learnt through observation. Even if they were in a familiar situation, their behaviour would be shaped through what they have observed and come out as actions accordingly.
