Research Problem - Identification of group processes in a newly formed group of kids

Objectives - The aim of the research would be to test a hypthesis of group development model given by Tuckman which suggest that group follow four stages of

1. Forming

2. Storming

3. Norming

4. Performing

Method -

Sample - The school children in a newly formed primary school class will be chosen for the study. Two different section of 1st std children willbe chosen for the study. Each of the class will b divided into four teams and will be assigned a simple project like preparing a clay model.

Assesment/Measurement - A behavioral coding scheme will be prepared with the help of experts in group development theory for categorising various group processes in one of the four stages as per the definition of each (forming, storming, norming, performing)

Observation - Detailed observations will be carried by trained researcher of all 8 teams along with video recording for duration of the project completion

Coding - After all the informaiton in recorded descriptive records will be coded by experts who had not particpated in the observation into to one of four categories.

After all the coding are ready the order of progression of each group through the stages is compared with theoretical four stage model informally.

If most of groups had followed the four stages in right order then these observations support the group development model. If not then the model does not fit the observations.
