Emotional responses can be called a reaction that have intrapsychic responses along with physiological reactions in a person which may or may not show behavioural responses. This may be characterised by either displeasure or pleasure. This may also be related to mood or motivation, temperament or personality. Emotion may or may not be related to critical thinking. In fact, under the influence of emotions, people may lose their ability to thinking critical making biased decisions. Also, the expression of emotions is highly subjective to the type of people being introverts or extroverts. The extroverts are people who can easily express their emotions and thus are considered highly responsive people. But people people being introverts, do not express their feelings, especially sorrow, and are hence considered to be unresponsive.

According to the theories

- contemporary theory: this states that social as well as basic emotions give rise to behaviours that became adaptive to the environment around them. Paul D Maclean suggested that emotion affects instant responses as well as abstract reasoning processes. This also focuses on the behavioural aspects of people in response to emotions. For example, spite would make people be afraid of an individual and shame might make people act in particular ways to behave in a society.

- James Lange theory (somatic theory) : he emphasised on the physiological responses of emotions. He said that an excitatory stimulus led to emotions. He said that autonomic nervous system stimulates a response resulting in a physical response. This theory was given by both Carl Lange and William James. For example an emotion may result in an increase in heart rate, perspiration Etc.
