Explanation / Answer

The affordable health care act

1. Briefly summarize the ACA.

The affordable health care act for America act was crafted by the US house but never finally came out as law. It is coded as HR 3962. Rather, an alternative health care act was finally implemented as the "Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010". This bill was meant for the betterment of the citizens of America, such that their cost for health care could be reduced with health care provision. It would also include the fact that the insurers could not change their rates based on the patient's history and a provision such that low income families could get proper coverage by providing subsidy to such families.

2. Apply either tructural functionalism or conflict theory to a critical discussion of the ACA.

According to the conflict theory: the lowest and the poorest class of people were heavily going to benefit from the act. Senior citizens and women were also going to benefit and the insurance company would have to stop any discrimination against rate fluctuations. Opposing sides had a major issue with the act and with changes of various sorts and finally an was decided. It is said that making it mandatory to buy medical insurance is non constitutional and this would result in lesser jobs. Also, there would be lesser funding for senior citizens.

Functionalist View:

According to the functionalist view, before the implementation of the affordable act, there were different rates in different areas of the States. There have been minimum standards imposed that the health care providers require to provide regardless of the patient asking for the same. The functionalist perspective says that one society is stable and functions in a proper system. The stability of the system comes from shared beliefs and expectations.
