Question
I am only looking for number 1
For your last discussion board, I want you to pick two songs, one which speaks out against the issues that we have discussed in class this semester, and one that reinforces the idea of a rape culture. In other words, find a 'positive' song and a 'negative' song. You will need to copy and paste your song lyrics into your post and answer the following questions: How does your song go for or against rape culture? How? Be specific. (If you are unclear of this term, revisit chapter 10) Answer this question for BOTH songs. In what ways do/have you as a person contribute to rape culture? For example, what are some everyday thoughts, actions, words or activities do you participate in that reinforce a rape culture? What changes will/have you made to help combat rape culture? Each song should have an analysis that is about a paragraph each (5-7 sentences). As always, spelling and mechanics count! Students are NOT allowed to analyze Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke, Blame It on the Alcohol by Jamie Foxx or Baby it's Cold Outside. While all three of these songs are excellent examples of rape culture, I want to see students looking for songs that have not been analyzed over and over. Challenge yourselves!Explanation / Answer
The pop culture has added a fuel to the rape culure. I am citing the lyrics of a son by Justin Bieber. They are as follows:
"What do you mean? Oh, oh
When you nod your head yes, But you wanna say no
What do you mean? Hey-ey
When you don't want me to move, but you tell me to go
What do you mean?"
These lines from Bieber's song talks about a relationship. It is not against the rape culture. It shows how difficult a relationship can be because the person he's with is always saying one thing, when she wants something else. After the song came, it got strong reactions to it. It sparked a debate about consent, whether taking a consent from other person is required or not. A lot of rapists justify their actions saying something like the lines of the song, 'she said no, but I could tell she meant yes.' Nobody has the right to assume what other person meant. Assumption is not the basis of reality like consent. Rape culture makes guys feel like it's good to assume what a girl is thinking and ignore what she is saying. The songs of famous pop stars like justin bieber makes them think in this way as they try to follow what they hear and see.
