Found Objects are objects that challenge others to perceive social and cultural issues in unexpected ways. Found Objects can be texts, photographs, advertisements, news articles, or anything else that illustrates atypical ways of thinking about the society and/or culture.

You may come across Found Objects in your daily life, or you might also create this object (painting, poetry, photograph, short film, etc.) with your imagination. Whatever it is, the objective of this project is to discover and describe how this object expresses or reflects some pervading social and cultural values of contemporary society. A question you might ask is: how does this object express something unique about social life? And how can I use the readings to make sense of this object?

This project consists of three parts:

Part I: Find or create an object.

Part II: Write about your object in a 1–page paper, 12-point Times New Roman. YOU MUST USE CITATIONS to receive full credit. In this informal essay, discuss how the object challenges us to think about social life in unexpected ways. Also, describe how you came across the object? Why do you think it is interesting? Is it an expression of Speed Culture? Is it an example of how we categorize reality, or create Islands of Meaning? How does your object challenge ordinary understandings of social life?

DO NOT over think this project. Rather consider it like a show and tell for grown-ups. But remember, you are budding social psychologists, so draw on insights from the readings to make sense of your object. You are not required to cite the readings, but it would be great if you did!

Japanese Noh performance is a Kabuki form of art and music in ancient japan, which reflects the culture, heritage and music of japan in early century.The paintings of woodlocks depict this ancient form of art in wall hangings and prints.The kangen ensemble which includes the sitting plan of japanese on floor along with the use of various music hand instruments.Confucian form of prayers of sun and Moon which includes the design of musical instruments.String instruments like Koto and shamisen have strings which were played by japanese women in ancient century.Further yogaku was considered ancient form of music in japan.Kagura dance is also common in the shrines and temples of japan.Court dance is similar to that of china and korea.It includes the slow movements and motions in dance which are very delighful to watch and appreciate.
